Sister # 1705

SOTF certificate

My new lucky number?

I’m officially a Sister on the Fly. The all-girl adventure group claims to have more fun than anyone. How could I resist such a promise? I received my number, welcome packet, and first badge this week. It was all very exciting–at least for me.

Sisters on the Fly badge

Just like Girl Scouts except I don't think the Girl Scouts had a martini badge.

Sisters on the Fly was started by two fly-fishing, real-life sisters (Maurrie Sussman and Becky Clarke) in 1999. The group organizes all kinds of adventures across the United States. Many (but not all) sisters have their own vintage camper like this beauty (see their entire gallery of caravans).

There are some fun sounding trips in 2011 on the East Coast–a spring beach campout on Tybee Island in April and a fall woodsy hike-and-camp in Blairsville, GA. A SOTF gathering during the National Cornbread Festival in Tennessee is already full, so it looks like I’ll miss that this year. But it seems like my kind of fun, so it’s something to look forward to. Ultimately, I’d like to join the sisters for trips in Montana and Arizona–two states I’ve never visited.

Joining SOTF seemed like a good step to meet other gals who like to camp and are into vintage campers. Maybe it will result in some positive leads. Many of the trips are planned at campgrounds that have cabins or tent spots, so I can rough it until I get my camper.

Nice SOTF Member!! I keep looking for vintage campers worthy of your tenure. None so fortunate yet.

Tybee Island is a little treasure….

    Hi 1705,
So glad you are a member of Sisters on the Fly now! Hmmm, Tybee Island sounds like a nice place to be. Loved it when I lived in Savannah many years ago.
